Ongoing projects

HyFuel, Florø

HyFuel was founded in 2020 and aims to establish large-scale hydrogen production at Fjord Base in Florø, Kinn municipality.
The project is a joint venture between Fjord Base, Sogn & Fjordane Energi and HYDS. HYDS entered the project in spring 2024 after acquiring Gasnor’s shares.

The HyFuel project will develop a 20 MW green hydrogen facility, supplying hydrogen to the regional maritime industry and positioning Fjord Base as a Maritime Hydrogen Hub along the Norwegian coast. A Final Investment Decision (FID) was reached in November 2025, and the project is now entering the construction phase, targeting commercial operations by the end of 2027.

A key advantage of HyFuel is its strategic location at Fjord Base, offering direct access to the maritime market, the Norwegian Continental Shelf, and Norway’s western coastal shipping corridor, making it an ideal site for hydrogen distribution and bunkering.

Kaupanes Expansion, Egersund

In February 2024, Kaupanes Hydrogen opened a green hydrogen production plant in Egersund, producing hydrogen through electrolysis powered by renewable energy, with a capacity of 388 kg per day.

The Kaupanes Expansion Project represents the next phase of this development, a 20 MW facility capable of producing approximately 8 tonnes of green hydrogen per day. The expansion will strengthen Kaupanes Hydrogen’s position as a leading maritime hydrogen hub in southern Norway.

Kaupanes Hydrogen is a joint venture between Egersund Næring & Havn, Dalane Energi, and HYDS. A Final Investment Decision was reached in November 2025, with construction underway and operations expected to commence by the end of 2027.

The operational experience gained from the existing Kaupanes Hydrogen plant provides valuable insights for the expansion phase. The project emphasises synergy with existing infrastructure, ensuring cost efficiency, safety, and reliability as the facility scales to meet growing market demand. Kaupanes Hydrogen will continue to expand in line with market growth, maintaining the highest standards of quality, safety, and environmental performance.

Meråker Hydrogen

Meråker Hydrogen is a joint venture company owned by NTE, HYDS, Greenstat and local funders. The hydrogen production plant will be strategically located in central Norway, in close proximity to the Swedish border, offering business opportunities both within Norway and for export of green hydrogen to Sweden.

The Meråker Hydrogen facility will be constructed at Kopperå, within Meråker Municipality. The plant will produce green hydrogen utilizing local, renewable hydropower. By increasing the access to clean energy in Central Norway, the project will contribute to reduce regional CO2 emissions from start operation in 2027. Meraker Hydrogen aims to become the preferred producer of green hydrogen in the region, thereby contributing to the green transition towards 2030.

Final investment decision for the hydrogen production facility is scheduled within the first quarter of 2025.
