HYDS has acquired shares in Meraker Hydrogen AS

Hydrogen Solutions AS (HYDS) has acquired a 31 percent stake in Meraker Hydrogen AS.

Production is planned to start in 2027

Meraker Hydrogen AS has been under development for a couple of years, and under the new ownership NTE, HYDS and Greenstat Hydrogen will be the majority owners. The project will be further developed. Final Investment Decision (FID) is planned during Q1, 2025, followed by an immediate Project execution- and Construction period. The intention during the first phase is to build a green hydrogen plant with production capacity of approximately 2.5 tonnes per day, corresponding to 6MW of installed electrolyser capacity.

Meraker Hydrogen is located near key distribution and infrastructure hubs

The plant will be built in Kopperå in Meråker municipality, in the immediate vicinity of the roads E6 and E14, the railways Meråkerbanen and Nordlandsbanen, and near the Muruvik port. The main market is the regional market both in Norway and Sweden, looking at segments such as transport, industry, railway, construction and maritime. The close distance to Sweden makes it highly relevant for export of compressed green hydrogen to the evolving market.

Production is expected by the end of Q2, 2027. Further upscaling of the plant is planned and will be monitored closely in relation to the development of the market.

Operational experience – a key to success

HYDS has already collected a substantial volume of constructional and operational experience from hydrogen production at the plants Stord Hydrogen and Kaupanes Hydrogen, establishing a robust position in the ongoing development and construction of Meraker Hydrogen.

“From NTEs side we welcome HYDS as co-owners in Meraker Hydrogen and we look forward to develop the project together with the competent and experienced team from HYDS”,

Jo Langøygard, Chairman of the Board in Meraker Hydrogen AS.
