HYDS welcomes Vidju as a new shareholder

Vidju Holding has invested in Hydrogen Solutions AS (HYDS), joining the company as a new shareholder. With extensive experience in energy and infrastructure, Vidju aims to take an active role in HYDS and contribute to the development of new and complementary energy infrastructure.

HYDS develops projects for the production and use of green hydrogen in Norway and Sweden. The company is currently progressing several projects, including HyFuel and a green hydrogen project in Gothenburg, previously owned by Statkraft.

For Vidju, the investment represents a further step in building expertise and taking an active position in emerging energy value chains as transport, industry and other sectors work to reduce their dependence on fossil fuels.

“Our companies have extensive experience in building and developing infrastructure related to energy and communications. We now see the energy system becoming broader. Electricity will be the most important solution in many areas, but in some parts of transport and industry, we will also need other energy carriers to replace fossil fuels and feedstocks. We believe it is a natural step for Vidju to build expertise and take a real position in these areas as well,” says Audun Grynning, CEO of Vidju.

Complementing direct electrification

Direct electrification will be the most efficient solution for a large share of future energy demand. However, there are applications where factors such as battery capacity, grid constraints, weight, range or operating patterns make direct electrification challenging.

Long-haul heavy-duty transport is one example. Shipping, aviation and several industrial applications are other areas where renewable molecules will be needed alongside renewable electrons.

“We do not see hydrogen as a replacement for electrification. We see it as a complement where electricity cannot be used directly in an efficient way. A future energy system will most likely rely on several energy carriers, and our task is to understand where the different solutions make sense,” says Grynning.

Green hydrogen can also serve as an important feedstock for new industrial value chains, including the production of ammonia, methanol and synthetic fuels.

Building experience through real projects

Vidju sees its ownership in HYDS as an opportunity to build practical experience through concrete projects.

The Gothenburg project is being developed as an approximately 10 MW electrolysis facility, with potential for further expansion. With public funding, permits, industrial partners and a nearby market, the project provides a valuable platform for developing experience across technology, power sourcing, customers, financing, permitting and operations.

This experience can also be transferred to future projects elsewhere in the Nordic region.

For HYDS, Vidju brings additional expertise and a long-term industrial perspective to the shareholder base.

“We are very pleased to welcome Vidju as a shareholder in HYDS. Their long-term perspective on renewable energy and industrial development is well aligned with our ambition to develop scalable green hydrogen solutions. Vidju brings relevant experience and perspectives, as well as a clear ambition to take an active role in the company. This makes them a strong addition to our shareholder base, and we look forward to exploring the opportunities ahead together,” says Frode Kirkedam, CEO of Hydrogen Solutions AS.

Regional energy companies as industrial developers

Vidju joins a shareholder base that includes regional energy companies with a long-term commitment to developing new energy value chains.

SKL has been involved in HYDS for several years, while Dalane Energi is also among the company’s largest shareholders. Together, the owners bring experience from renewable power, infrastructure and regional industrial development.

For HYDS, this combination of industrial expertise, capital and regional roots provides an important foundation for developing projects in a market that is still taking shape.

With Vidju joining as an active shareholder, HYDS further strengthens its industrial foundation as the company continues to develop projects and other opportunities for green hydrogen and its derivatives.
